Job description

At Sky Betting and Gaming we don't have team Teams we have Tribes. Each Tribe is made up of small, agile and autonomous squads who work collaboratively with a shared purpose. So whether you join our Bet Tribe, Early Careers Tribe or anything in between, you will work with a group of people with raw energy, natural talent, and the kind of spirit that helps us think big, act bold, and change the game.

It all means that we've created the kind of workplace that wins awards such as a place on the prestigious list of Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For.

The role of a Lead Software Engineer is to:- Coordinate a single squad's technical delivery flow: task managing software and test engineers in the team to optimise the business value of what's delivered, and owning the release process into the live environment.
- Plan and govern how changes are implemented, working alongside Solution Architects and DevOps Engineers to ensure robust solutions.
- Recognise and tackle recurring implementation problems, and ensure the maintainability of the solution: acting as a software architect where required, and driving high quality delivery by defining ways of working and testing strategy.
- Mentor and develop the Software Engineers to ensure the team is as productive as possible

Key responsibilities:

Lead Software Engineers at SB&G are responsible for the technical output of their squad: they work closely with the Product Owner to optimise the business value delivered and drive initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of delivery. At times you will be expected to step outside your normal responsibilities to pick up whatever is necessary but the core responsibilities are:- Turn concepts and requirements into highly available web applications and systems using industry standard languages such as LAMP, PHP, Node, JavaScript, JSON and XML.
- Task-manage software engineers and testers: who is doing what, liaising with the Product Owner and PM/Scrum-master to find the right balance between business priority and efficient delivery.
- Manage live environment releases: deciding what's in the release, who will lead it, and assessing the post-deployment impacts.
- Working with scrum-master/PM to present Product Owner and other stakeholders with estimated timescales for feature delivery.
- Working with Business Analyst and Product Owner to sub-divide the workflow into sensibly sized and independent stories for delivery.
- Liaising as necessary with internal and external teams during delivery process.
- Have a complete knowledge of how the application that the team is responsible for works, and act as a technical go-to for any questions related to the team's application.
- Working with the Engineering Manager to co-ordinate live support for the squad's work, both on-call and within business hours; and the processes around incident escalation into the team.
- Work with Business Analysts, Product Owners and Solution Architects to clarify, suggest and negotiate functional and non-functional requirements.
- Monitoring changes through the deployment process and into live: triage and manage any resulting defects and perform analysis to prevent recurrence. Drive team output quality and team test strategy with involvement of the test department.

As a valued employee, you will receive free Sky HD and Broadband, as much free Yorkshire tea as you can drink (we are in God's country after all), or the stronger stuff if you're more of a coffee connoisseur. A digital private healthcare scheme along with Herman Miller chairs to ensure your derriere is as comfortable as possible whilst you're innovating and a pension scheme that will send you jet setting off into retirement. All this in a flexible working environment with some of the best minds in the industry help make Sky Betting and Gaming a really great place to work (if we don't say so ourselves). So come join us, one sugar or two?

Grow with Sky Betting and Gaming
