Job description

Join the Army as a musician and you could find yourself opening national events, Trooping the Colour, performing on some of the world's greatest stages and reaching all of your musical goals with our support. Whatever instrument you play, you'll perform at all kinds of events, for our soldiers, the public and VIPs. It's a great opportunity to get paid to play music, develop a stable career and work alongside not only the Army, but other services too. To join us, you need to pass an audition as well as the usual medical and fitness tests. If you do that, this needs bring up front you could be in line for a joining bonus of between 4,000 and 10,000. Once you've joined, you can get qualifications in performance, conducting and more - qualifications that will leave you highly employable after the Army.

BECOME A BETTER YOU
After training, you'll join one of our many bands. You could be performing anything from musical spectaculars in iconic venues to marches with returning troops. Our bands have many different styles, including full-time rock and pop groups, brass bands, symphonic wind bands, marching bands and a string orchestra. You could even train to become a musician on horseback.

LEARN NEW SKILLS
In the Army, you are expected to play music to a very high standard, often under pressure. That means working together with your fellow musicians to make sure your band plays well. As well as teamwork skills, you'll learn to play in different styles with different groups for different occasions. In other words, you'll learn to adapt. It's a chance to expand your musical knowledge, while becoming a first-class soldier.

WORLD-CLASS TRAINING
First, you learn to be a soldier: how to survive outdoors and fire weapons. The next part of your training will be at The Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall in Twickenham. It lasts between 11 and 44 weeks, depending on your level. The School's music professors will help you build on your musical skills. Meanwhile, military instructors will help you to be an even better solider. You will also learn the technical skills you need to join an Army band and develop a rewarding career.

GAIN QUALIFICATIONS
The Army can help you gain a range of qualifications. These could include:- Business and Technology Council (BTEC) Music Level 3
- Associate Diploma Trinity College London (ATCL) in musical performance
- Licentiate Diploma Trinity College London (LTCL) in conducting

SHOW PEOPLE WHAT YOU'RE CAPABLE OF

Work hard and you could get promoted (to Bandmaster for example), which will mean more responsibility and extra pay. And along the way, you'll pick up qualifications that are recognised by civilian employers.

DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS

You should be:- Regular Army age: 17.8 - 36.11 years
- Army Reserve age: 17.9 - 42.11 years

Qualifications you'll need:- Entry into the Corps of Army Music is by audition. We require our musicians to perform to the highest standards and we will assess your potential to be trained to become an Army Musician.
