Web Operations Engineer / DevOps Engineer - Leeds

As a Web Operations Engineer you will work as part of an agile, self-motivated, high performing team to deliver and run highly available web applications and sites across Sky Bet. Act as a multidisciplinary expert with a deep understanding in certain fields (e.g. Network, Security, Database, Performance, and Capacity) to provide a wide range of support and deployment related activities. Encourage and challenge everyone from developers to product owners to think about how new applications and services will be run and maintained and promote a DevOps culture throughout the teams.
1. Operations Support
* Effective and complete troubleshooting and remediate of failures ensuring solutions are measured and validated even for those delivered outside the team.
* Identify and track performance problems or reliability issues down to specific line of code or approach and provide tuning or recommendations for improvements.
* Second line and out of hours support for live incidents where a reactive but measured
response is required to the recovery of service.
2. Influence and refine system design and implementation
Enable and support the growth and scaling of products and services. Identifying inefficiencies in our current systems and methods to where possible automate and streamline them.
Work closely with development, service and support teams to promote a DevOps culture. Providing training and tools where suitable to empower them in the future.
Challenge and influence our developers and product owners to ensure new applications and services are delivery the right thing in the right way.
3. Build, run and refine tools and monitoring
Build or select the right tools to enable automation across all aspects of delivery, development and operations.
Identify areas where we can make efficiencies and avoid future workload and provide solutions that compliment our exiting tooling strategy.
Build, run and refine monitoring solutions for old and new systems ensuring our diagnostic tools allow us to capture ad compare metrics across all of our areas.
4. Deployments and testing
Own the release of internal code and push out configuration changes to be a guardian of code quality, helping the developers to make not just good features, but good systems.
Design, build and run systems for application deployment, systems orchestration and configuration management.
Constantly refine and tune our deployment process so ensure we are not outpaced by the needs of delivery.
Key Competencies and Experience- Experience of working in a high-traffic and high-availability environment efficiently
- Strong knowledge in several of our key preferred technologies and platforms, such as CentOS, Apache, PHP, Node.JS, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis and Memcached.
- Strong knowledge of application and server performance monitoring tools such as Splunk, Graphite and Opsview.
- Adept at utilising and integrating CI/CD, automation and version control tool sets including chef, Jenkins, Git and Salt.
- Experience working in a fast-paced agile development environment.
